Words For Today:  February 22, 2012

Invective
Salute
Offend

Invective
Vehement or violent denunciation, censure, or reproach.
A railing accusation.

I have been very disappointed with the invective speech that the candidates are using.

Salute

To pay respect or honor by some formal act.
To address with expressions of goodwill, respect.
To make a bow or other gesture.

One of the first things I learned in the Army was how to salute officers properly.

Offend

To irritate, annoy, or anger.
To affect disagreeably.
To hurt or cause pain to.

It was never my intention to offend you in any fashion.
