Renaissance
The activity, spirit, or time of the great revival of art, literature, and learning in Europe beginning in the 14th century and extending to the 17th century, marking the transition from the medieval to the modern world.
The forms and treatments in art used during this period.
Any similar revival in the world of art and learning.
A renewal of life, vigor, interest, etc.; rebirth; revival: a moral renaissance.

I would say that you could call this period of time in Fred's life, a renaissance of sorts.
Miscreant
Depraved, villainous, or base.
Holding a false or unorthodox religious belief; heretical. (archaic)

A vicious or depraved person; villain.

I believe he is a miscreant dictator based on what he has perpetrated on his people.


Essence

The basic, real, and invariable nature of a thing or its significant individual feature or features:  Freedom is the very essence of our democracy.

A substance obtained from a plant, drug, or the like, by distillation, infusion, etc., and containing its characteristic properties in concentrated form.

An alcoholic solution of an essential oil; spirit.

A perfume; scent.

The inward nature, true substance, or constitution of anything, as opposed to what is accidental, phenomenal, illusory, etc.

I believe the essence of his writing is spiritual.
