Calibrate

Calibrate

To determine, check, or rectify the graduation of any instrument giving quantitative measurements.
To divide or mark with gradations, graduations, or other indexes of degree, quantity, etc. as on a thermometer, measuring cup, or the like.
To determine the correct range for (an artillery gun, mortar, etc.) by observing where the fired projectile hits.

Please take a moment to calibrate that instrument; I want to make sure we get this right.



Respite

A delay or cessation for a time, especially of anything distressing or trying; an interval of relief: to toil without respite.                                                                                                                                Temporary suspension of the execution of a person condemned to death; reprieve.
He really needs a respite from his work. 


Audacious

Extremely bold or daring; recklessly brave; fearless: an audacious explorer.
Extremely original; without restriction to prior ideas; highly inventive: an audacious vision of the city's bright future.
Recklessly bold in defiance of convention, propriety, law or the like; insolent; brazen.
Lively; unrestrained; uninhibited: an audacious interpretation of her role. 

Jane really dresses in an audacious fashion when she attends these special events.
