Struck with overwhelming shock or amazement.
Filled with sudden fright or horror.

I was aghast to learn of your friend's experience with the local commissioner. 

Absence

State of being away or not being present.
Period of being away.
Failure to attend or appear when expected.

The absence I experienced with her in 2008 was not nearly as difficult as it is today, two years later. 

Similar

Having a likeness or resemblance.
Having the same shape.

These two products are very similar in performance.
