Tendencies

A natural or prevailing disposition to move, proceed, or act in some direction.
An inclination, bent, or predisposition to something.

I believe that George shows all the tendencies to be well-versed in his field of endeavor.

Barrier

Anything built or serving to bar passage.
Any natural bar or obstacle.
Anything that restrains or obstructs progress or access.
